This is extremely interesting. While the analysis seems certainly true of Hamas et al, who are authoritarian Islamists, the piece above seems to suggest that that is generally true of the Palestinians as a whole. Is that impression international? If we are to take Muslims/Arabs/Palestinians at their word, treated them with that respect and acknowledging their agency in this conflict unlike many of my international comrades who consider themselves on the left, then ought we not to apply that same respect and logic to those in Fatah et al, or in no party, who while they may wish for example for total RoR (right of return), say that they wish more for peace, security, dignity and prosperity for their children? Or is that liberal western projection and actually all Palestinians, secretly or otherwise, wish for nothing other than to kill us all? Having read your fanatically written and thought-provoking review, I'm unsure which of these you believe... and would love to know.
Could it be that the God of the bible, the one true God, is bringing judgement on the once “Christian” western world like He did when he used the pagan Babylonians to judge Israel circa 600 b.c.?
Concerning the vastly increased rise of Islam in the West, what if this is God's response to the widespread rejection of Christianity: You don't want Christianity this is what you get instead. Illegal aliens too: You don't want your own children? This is what you get instead.
The atheists who attack Christianity so aggressively do not realize they are only paving the way for Islam.
I looked at it on Amazon. I wonder how much Islamophilia he attributes to plain cowardice? And also cringing and groveling before people who despise them (don't know what the psychological term for that might be).
Another very interesting book on Islamic culture is The Closed Circle: An Interpretation of the Arabs by David Pryce-Jones.
Personally I think cowardice and stupidity will do, but masochism and trauma bonding? Why not? And there is some political calculation too - some leftists think that they can partner with the Muslims to bring down the status quo. Sort of like the Nazis and the Communists sometimes worked together to bring down the Weimar government.
Not that I am a psychologist, but I looked it up on the internet and found this: "This phenomenon of trauma bonding with the aggressor can be found in Narcissistic Victim Syndrome." It is related to the more well-known Stockholm Syndrome, but I think the terms "spinelessness" "weakness" and "cowardice" will do.
About Pryce-Jones, one of his main ideas was that the Arabs have adopted many of the external aspects of modern society, yet have retained a much older mindset intact - centuries older.
An excellent article. On October 7, the Hamas terrorists were armed, the Israelis massacred were defenseless. The unanswered question is why did Israel disarm its citizens most of whom are IDF veterans and leave them vulnerable to mass rape and murder by Hamas? An incredibly stupid decision and the Israeli government is clearly culpable. Every Jewish family in Israel (and the US) should have a 9 mm handgun, an AR15 rifle and plenty of ammunition for both. Every adult and teenage member of the family should be proficient in their use. Have anti-gun Jewish politicians in both countries learned nothing from the Holocaust and the latest slaughter? Isn't it time for the Jewish people to tell them to go fuck themselves?
I was surprised that when terrorists attacked Israeli communities they did not run into a hornet's nest. Liberal secularism is very powerful in Israel as well.
None of this is surprising, if you spend any time listening to ex-Muslims.

it depends entirely on whether you work with their statements in arabic and their statements in your tongue.

I wondered that as well , after the 2020 election.
Thanks for the thorough review. I’ll look for Landes’ prescient work in my bookstore. I suspect I’ll need to order it...
Many thanks for bringing attention to this excellent book.
Check out Islamophilia by Douglas Murray as well if you please.

Trauma bonding is the term that immediately came to my mind too. And masochism.

Going by memory but much is contributed to cowardice if not most of it, if remember correctly.
I will check out your recommendation.
Not a psychological term but maybe a form of flagellation?

My copy just arrived!

Scary stuff.
Going to read the book. Thanks for this review along with caveats.
What a brilliant article. Thank you 🙏🏻
